Frederikssund
This is a fantastic all-round bike route that takes you on a 92 km round trip through forests, lakes, and open countryside. It’s an easy route to adjust depending on how far you want to ride: you can start from Skovbrynet Station (S-Train Line B) to skip the stretch along the highway, finish at Brøndbyøster Station (S-Train Line B), or just ride one way and hop on the S-train from Frederikssund (Line C).
The first highlight is about 12 km in at Hareskoven - a classic spot for Copenhagen mountainbikers. It’s a beautiful forest with wide gravel roads and well maintained trails. If you happen to be on a mountain bike, and feel like a bit of fun, take the RoughCut.gpx detour on the singletrack. It’s well-marked and adds some playful flow and challenge before you hit Værløse Flyvestation, the old airfield that’s now a big open recreational area. Here you can find the Café Shelter 214 for coffee or move on a bit further to pass Netto in Værløse Kirke for snacks.
The route continues for about 10km through Mølleå Dalen - a calm, green corridor along a tiny stream with quite a bit of up and down. It’s one of those stretches that feels far from the city, with birdsong, cows grazing, open skies and small stretches of forest leading towards Buresø. From there its 10km on small asphalt roads to Frederikssund.
Once you reach Frederikssund, you can grab a bite by the fjord or turn around and follow the route back towards Copenhagen.
